The Government of Odisha, Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Bhubaneswar, introducing grade system replacing marks from 2014 in Class 10th. Also change in examination pattern increased objective or multiple choice questions to 50% from 40% and introduced optical mark recognition (OMR) sheets for better evaluation. Students will appear the exam in two phases – one hour for multiple choice questions on OMR sheets and 1.5 hours to answer subjective-type questions on question cum answersheets.
Students will be evaluated on nine-point grades like A (91-100 marks), B (81-90), C (71-80), D (61-70), E (51-60), F (41-50), G (33-40), H (21-32) and I (below 20) which aims at reducing stress and inculcating competitive spirit among students. Marks secured by students will be mentioned in marks heets to facilitate admission in colleges. Students, who secure more than 90% marks, will be categorized ‘outstanding’, those securing between 81-90% ‘excellent’ and those secured less than 20 % will get the tag ‘unsatisfactory’ instead of ‘fail’.
For the first the time students will get a chance to appeal for reevaluation of answer sheets. students has to apply for it within seven days of publication of results by paying Rs 700. If a student scores more than six marks after reevaluation then action will be taken against evaluators and the amount collected from them. The BSE will upload sample question and answer papers website for benefit of students. As many as five lakh students take the high school certificate examination under the state board every year.
