The Kerala engineering /medical entrance examinations KEAM 2014 got off to a start on April 21st, with an 89.8 percent attendance for the Physics and Chemistry paper, the first of the engineering entrance examinations. Of the 1,19,025 candidates who had registered to write these examinations 1,06,885, turned up to write the first paper, Commissioner for Entrance Examinations. The Mathematics paper would be held on April 22. The KEAM examinations are being held at 327 centres in Kerala, two in New Delhi and one each in Mumbai, Ranchi and in Dubai. Twenty five liaison officers are overseeing the examinations which are being administered by 332 chief superintendents and as many representatives of the CEE. More than 22,000 invigilators have been pressed into service as have 332 observers.  The medical entrance examinations would be held from 10 a.m. to 12.30 a.m. on April 23 and from 2.30 p.m. and 5 p.m. that day. The University Grants Commission (UGC) will conduct the National Eligibility Test (NET) in 79 arts and humanities subjects on June 29, 2014 for Junior Research Fellowship and Eligibility for Assistant Professor. Those who have secured at least 55 per cent marks in Masters degree in humanities, including languages, and social sciences, computer science and applications, electronic science and so on are eligible to appear for the test. Candidates belonging to the other Backward Classes (OBC) non-creamy layer/Scheduled Castes (SC)/Scheduled Tribes (ST)/Persons with Disability (PWD) categories need 50 per cent marks.  Those appearing for the final-year PG exams can also apply. One can appear for the test in the subject of their post graduation only.
