The Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board announced the schedule for board examinations 2014. As per the schedule, exams for High School and Intermediate will begin on March 3. While High School exams will end on March 21 Intermediate exams will continue till April 4, 2014. Over 39.93 lakh students have been enrolled for High School exam and 31.27 lakh for Intermediate. In all, 71.20 lakh students will take the exams. Compared to 2013, number of students has increased by 9.5%. As always, exams will take place in two shifts across 10,500 centres, the first to begin at 7.30 am and end at 10.45 pm while the second shift will begin at 2.00 pm and end at 5.15 pm. In UP, 39.93 lakh and 31.27 lakh candidates will appear for class X and class XII exams, respectively.
The UP Board practical exams would take place between January 10 and February 10, 2014. A minor change has been introduced in the marking system of practical exams. Practical exam worth 30 marks was totally external and students had to face an examiner from outside their institution who assessed them against a practical subject. But from this year, the exam would be divided into two parts, external and internal, each comprising 15 marks. Students would be evaluated internally by their own teachers.
This year, 4,000 invigilators (in Lucnow) have been appointed by the board for smooth conduct of exams. Last year, this number was 5,000. While in government and government-aided schools, there are enough invigilators, self-finance centres have their own teachers as invigilators. The board has asked around 1,200 primary teachers to act as invigilators in self-finance centres.
